Surveillance Technology and Privacy: Is Your Gadget Spying on You?

As we warp into an almost science fiction future, new technologies dominate our lives: Computers. Cell phone. Digital Cameras. Navigation. And much more.

While our 'always connected' society offers many rewards, perhaps it's time we cast light upon what's been lurking in the shadows - surveillance technology that dooms privacy.

The technical terms are reminiscent of an Orwellian novel. Surveillance technology, digital spying, predictive behavior technology. Whatever you call it, the pattern is clear: we're losing our privacy to technology at an alarming rate.

Today, almost every new gadget to hit the market has some kind of storage or connectivity. Insidious in this is the fact that these devices can store shocking amounts of personal data about you. And it's not just the Internet. Navigation devices and cell phones know your every move. Security cameras in common places can recognize your face and store it in a remote database. Even store bought merchandise now comes with electronic tracking tags.

This begs the question: is your gadget spying on you?
